A one day “Free Eye check-up Camp” was organized at Nurmahal Ashram, Punjab with the support of Civil Hospital, Jalandhar on 2nd June 2019. The camp was inaugurated by the eminent guest Bollywood comedian Sh. Sudesh Lahiri.
One week prior to camp, publicity about the eye camp was done through distribution of pamphlets by DJJS volunteers. With the conscious effort of DJJS preachers- Swami Gursharnanand Ji & Swami Girdharanand Ji and a team of medical fraternity from Civil Hospital - Dr. Rajesh Bagga (Civil Surgeon), Dr. Anu Dugala (S.M.O), Dr. Arun Verma (Eye Surgeon), Dr. Gurpreet Kaur (Eye Surgeon), Shri Kamal Ji (Ophthalmic officer) along with other paramedical staff, about 300 patients (90 men & 210 women) were screened for various eye ailments. With the help of torch light and direct ophthalmoscope, doctors examined patients for clinical conditions such as external eye infections, vision loss caused by nutritional deficiency, presbyopia, myopic vision, cataract, Glaucoma, etc. Refraction was performed on patients who have refractive errors, presbyopia and outdated, while DJJS volunteers control the patient flow. Prescribed medicines were provided for their diagnosed problems free of cost. And those patients identified with acute problems were referred to hospital for further investigation and treatment.
