Identifying the good and the bad is not an easy thing to do, this was witnessed by the DJJS representatives , during a workshop held at Jawahar Navoday School in Milki Padrauna , Khushinagar , Gorakhpur when students were raising their thumbs up considering smoking and alcoholism as ‘good’. Whether it symbolizes the ‘under influence’ factors, obscuring the young brigades mainly due to the effect of surrogate advertisements that today’s youth have been bumped into at every nook and corner or is it because of high acceptability of booze and fag, as a status symbol.
Whatever may the answer or the reason be, but in every condition it is showing the rise in the no. of cases of drug abuse, leading to various anomalies, of which the highest is degradation of mindsets.
Mr. Brijesh, an expert on the subject, said ‘early prevention is the only way out, in order to stay untouched and away from the thunderbolt of drug abuse which the society shall be in, because the success rates of the treatment is low and relapses are high”. Therefore, this grave situation must be controlled by putting efforts not only on the aspect of treatment but on the implementation of early prevention as well.
During the workshop, students were also taught on how mere experimentation with drugs may lead 80% of people into the category of addicts. So, the speaker justifiably pushed further the idea of ‘Say no to Drugs in Life’, which definitely aids an individual in tackling such harmfully disadvantageous risks throughout one's course of existence. Through inclusive activities, multifarious demonstrations, educative videos and participatory games he also threw light upon various psychological aspects relating to drug abuse.
Almost 200 students with 10 teachers attended the workshop and were facilitated with a detailed insight regarding the subject of the workshop.
The workshop was conducted under the banner of NIRNAY – MY LIFE, MY DECISION, an ongoing drive in Gorakhpur, for the establishment of drug free Uttar Pradesh.
All appreciated the program, visited the work efficiency and enthusiastically acquired the adequate experiences on how the organization has been successfully combating this menace, through the exhibition displayed within the venue. They also lend their hands of contribution during the campaign.
