Bodh, DJJS has organized a one day workshop at govt. senior secondary school, Prabhat Pura in Phillaur Punjab for disseminating prevention education regarding drug abuse amongst 125 students and 12 staff members.

Education touted as a key defense against drug abuse amongst students in Phillaur, Punjab

Under the de-addiction campaign ‘UNMOOLAN’ which is being continuously organized in the state of Punjab, workshops like these are being conducted regularly covering all the stakeholders of the problem of drug abuse. Suppose, children being the highest vulnerable group get trapped easily because of unbounded inquisitiveness and streak of innocent stubbornness to experiment with all the new and things yet unexplored in this world. Lucrative bill boards, ads, hoardings and holding of cigarette between the fingers by the Bollywood actors make a very deep impact on these clean slated innocent children, which again persuade them to go for its experimentation. And the worst part is this, that they don’t know the harmful effects of it and fall for its use at the very earlier age as between 9 and 12 years of age respectively.

As per the studies done during the national survey conducted in India in 2002, it was observed that 80% of the people who have ever experimented with alcohol or any gateway drugs are likely to continue with it in their further course of life as well, which contributes a lot in degradation of scores in academics, indulgence into violence or criminal activities, the attitude of indifference to the society and many more. Therefore, at the right time if proper information is provided to these students, situation can be controlled and bridled easily. However Punjab, the state which is now known for drug abuse, still has a hope left where 30% are still non users. Through interventions like prevention education, demonstration and life experience sharing, these untouched gems can be saved and can be embedded into the fabric of the new, emerging and developed India.
