JAAGO 2018| DJJS encourages masses to celebrate an Eco-friendly and Drug-free Deepwali

Furthering, its annual initiative named JAAGO, DJJS Drug Abuse Eradication Program- Bodh & Nature Conservation Program- Sanrakshan undertook a month- long awareness generation and sensitization campaign across the country on the occasion of Deepawali 2018.

A symbol of victory of righteousness over evil, Deepawali is among the most widely celebrated festivals of India. The celebrations are a grand affair, involving humongous investment of money, materials, time as well as emotion. However, overtime, certain mal – practices like bursting crackers, consuming drugs and alcohol and playing cards have got tagged along the pious celebrations maligning the spirit of the festival and adding to environmental pollution, accidental deaths and injuries as well as shameful incidences of abuse and assault.

Bearing in mind the impact these activities have on individuals and environment, almost a decade ago, DJJS designed its special Jaago Campaign with two- fold aim of reviving the sacred essence of the festival as well as transforming it into a drug- free and pollution- free Diwali.

Furthering the same, this year, diverse awareness generation activities including awareness walks, street plays, awareness generation workshops and booths were undertaken in various parts of the country.
