There occurs one death every four minutes due to a road accident in India and drunk driving is one of the leading causes of these road fatalities. The victims of such fatalities are not just the drunk drivers or the pedestrians on the roads but also their families. The statistics also tell us that the case is even worse during the time of Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Such incidents turn celebrations into grave mournfulness every year.

Students of Bright School, Ambala all set to spread the message of Don’t Drink and Drive

To counter the growing trend of drunk driving amongst the people and to encourage the importance of road safety, under the "Suffer or Safar" campaign driven by the Drug Abuse Eradication Program (Bodh), The Ambala centre of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan founded/mentored by His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj ji visited the Bright School in Village Bada, Ambala and sensitized the students and the faculty members on the ins and outs of road safety and drunk driving. Through various activities and demonstrations, students were also educated on what are the immediate and long term effects of alcohol consumption and how drinking and driving serves as a threat not only to the person driving the vehicle in an intoxicated condition but the ones travelling by the vehicles around him. As a precautionary measure, they were also provided with various tips to keep a constant check on the soberness of the driver while they are in the vehicle so that a safe journey can be ensured.  Alongside, the importance of having to walk carefully on the road and on the significance of following the traffic rules were as well emphasized.

Towards the end, those students who were then aware of the role they can play as individuals in combating this threat pledged to never experiment any sort of intoxicating substances and also demotivate their friends and family members  on drunkdriving.
