The four Manthan Sampoorna Vikas Kendras (SVKs) of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) in Bihar are being supported by Canada's Women's Empowerment International Foundation (WEIF). The focus is laid on providing quality education to under-privileged children in rural areas, along with capacity building of the teachers.
Teachers play a crucial role in shaping students' overall personality. With an objective to establish quality in education, a five-day training program was organized for teachers of Bihar SVKs from April 22 - 26, 2015. Resource persons for the training were Dr. Patricia Gokhle, Director, Nareshwadi Learning Centre (NLC), Dahanu, Maharashtra and Ms. Silvia, Trained Nursery Teacher.
The workshop was attended by 16 teachers of Manthan, Bihar. The sessions began with discussions on establishing quality in education, followed by a situational analysis of Manthan schools. This was conducted through a series of group exercises with the team. Then the principles of teaching and learning were discussed at length, which helped the group to understand and draw goals, activities and learning outcomes of the subjects.
Teaching-learning activities were planned out for teachers and they prepared work sheets based on syllabus. Sessions on creating 'Record of Work' were also conducted wherein the participants learnt to prepare lesson plans and maintain record of work. Activity calender and work plan for 2015-16 was also presented by the group on last day of the workshop.
Ms. Silvia conducted a drawing workshop with a group of 25 students of Manthan SVK, Saharsa, Bihar. The students enjoyed filling colours in sheets. This helped them develop their motor skills and enhance creativity.
Dr. Patricia Gokhle and Ms. Silvia along with the team of Village Improvement Program also visited and interacted with the women beneficiaries of village Parsoni. The team visited some women households to review the growth of mango saplings and vegetable seeds distributed for their economic empowerment. An activity calendar was also planned out with the help of VIP Coordinator Mr. Ajeet and Assistant Mr. Vijay.
The program concluded on a successful note and teachers were appreciative of the training procedure that enhanced their skill set and boosted their confidence to nourish the knowledge base of students with quality education.
DJJS is thankful to WEIF and NLC for their rigorous support in the noble endeavors of maintaining, establishing and ensuring quality in education in rural areas.
