World Environment Day celebration @ Manthan SVKs

June 24, 2016

World Environment Day (WED) is observed every year on 5th June, 2016 to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. To add to the glory of this day, Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) came forward and supported this noble cause through the students of its holistic education program called Manthan – Sampoorna Vikas Kendra (SVK). Since Manthan SVK enlivens the true philosophy of education for societal development, it strongly believes that the environment should be conducive to the student’s overall learning and development. So the organisation took the initiative of promoting awareness to save the Mother Earth and protect its natural beauty.

Across all the Manthan SVK centres of India, the WED was celebrated by Manthanites (students of Manthan) through various competitions, rallies and street plays. To start with, 15 Manthanites were invited by the mall authorities of Pavilion Mall, Amristar for the drawing competition where they showcased their talent by brushing some beautiful drawings on water saving, cutting of trees, air pollution, etc. The efforts and initiative of DJJS were truly appreciated by the mall authorities and the Manthanites received many accolades for their mesmerizing art. To mention few events, in Gurgaon, the street play, “paani bachao paani badhao” was enacted by 50 Manthanites to spread the awareness of the importance of growing trees and saving water. Their classic performance was much praised and acknowledged. Dwarka center of Manthan SVK too special initiative by conducting a door to door survey of their community listing the number of houses having and not having plants. Plants were distributed by the children to all those households whose roofs or balconies were bereft of plants.  Later, the planting of medicinal and other trees was a cherry on the cake.

Across all the centres, special lectures on the importance of clean and safe environment were made to the Manthanites. Overall, the students of Manthan SVK, a social initiative of DJJS left a mark on society which will hopefully make a difference in the people’s mindset and they will be motivated to not only save the environment but also work for its betterment.
