As the monsoon hits northern part of India, it’s time for celebrating the Indian tree plantation festival, Van Mahotsav, however, owing to the growing human disconnect with nature, the festival has lost its glory. To revive the fading glory of the festival, DJJS Jalandhar, under the banner of Sanrakshan, the Nature Conservation Initiative of DJJS, undertook a special initiative to empower students to take up their responsibility towards environment and lead the movement of conservation.
Sanrakshan team of DJJS Jalandhar organised a special ‘climate change advocacy workshop’ for the students of M.S. Memorial Model School, Beant Nagar, Jalandhar and motivated them to take up a community awareness walk to sensitize masses on the nature conservation. Over 500 students were sensitized and participated in the awareness walk.
Holding colourful placards and raising the slogan of ‘आओ पढ़ लगाये, पृथ्वी को बचाए’ as the students walked through the residential colonies of Beant Nagar, several men, women and children came out to applaud their effort. Some stood there to watch them passing by, some came forward to interact with the volunteers and know what they could do and some even started walking with the children to register their support.
Mr. Saroj, Counsellor, Ms. Kiran Bala, Prinicpal, M.S. Memorial Model School, Mr. Saini Sahib, Retired army officer and Mr. Prem Lal, local enterprenuer, were special guests who were present at the awareness walk to encourage the students and mark their support to the effort.
