This year yet again, the sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan (August 7, 2017) witnessed female volunteers of DJJS Jalandhar, Punjab tying threads of love and care to trees at Jawahar Park, Jalandhar Cantt. Raksha Bandhan is a pious festival when all sisters tie Rakhi on their brothers' wrist for their good health and prosperity, and brothers in return protect them against all evils.
This act of benevolence was inspired by the selflessness of trees that protect all living organisms from environmental evils and also, provide all possible support to survive on this planet. By tying Rakhi to trees, the sisters pledged to neither cut nor let anyone else cut the trees and stay committed for their protection.
DJJS Sanrakshan working towards rebuilding fading human- nature relationship to conserve nature started this unique practice of tying Rakhi to trees years ago. Since then, it has been fulfilling its promise to protect trees by generating awareness among masses and carrying out tree plantation drives all across the India.
