World over, November 25th is marked as International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women for more than 30 years now. Still the statistics are unfortunately blotched by facts such as 1 woman out of 3 experiencing violence today throughout the world. Tagging violence as a violation of human rights, this year UN has marked a 16 day campaign against Gender Based Violence from 25th November End Violence Day till 10th December 2015 which is the Human Rights Day, for the whole world.

Santulan – the Gender Equality program of DJJS which has been instrumental in the field of fighting discrimination as well as violence against women through unique socio-spiritual methods; has endorsed the same campaign led by the UN and is undertaking a number of atleast 20 mass awareness rallies in 20 different cities of India under the theme of “Respect Women, Elevate the World”. These rallies would directly benefit a number of around 100000 people in these 16 days throughout the nation.


GORAKHPUR , UTTAR PRADESH

Respect Women Elevate the World | Nationwide 16 Day Campaign against Gender Based Discrimination from 25th Nov End Violence Day to 10th Dec Human Rights Day

Upholding the ethos of the UN initiated “Orange the world” campaign , the Gorakhpur branch of DJJS carried out mass awareness rallies on two days, steering the mindsets of hundreds of onlookers towards giving women their due rights of dignity, equality and justice. The first rally was carried out on 4th Dec’2015. It sensitised many people in the Khukhundu bazaar of Deoria district to stop violence of any and every kind against women. For the next rally, which was held on 10th Dec’2015 and flagged off by Dr. Satya Pandey, Mayor, Nagar Nigam Gorakhpur; the DJJS centre chose to reiterate the theme of ‘Respect women, elevate the world’ to the residents of district Gorakhpur Main, for which the 300-odd dedicated women volunteers used thought-provoking banners and slogans. In the end, a choreography was also put up by Santulan volunteers, that successfully conveyed the message of valuing the girl child.

ALIGARH, UTTAR PRADESH

Hundreds of proactive women representing Aligarh centre of DJJS, took out a 3-hour long rally on 10th Dec’ 2015, to mark their solidarity with the theme ‘Respect Women , Elevate the World . The rally, flagged off by Smt. Pinki Garg, Chairman, Nagar Palika from Malka Park, Kaleaam, covered areas like Lallababu Chauraha, District Hospital, Dipti Ganj etc. The high-spirited participants vehemently espoused dignity, equality, and need for self-awakening of women through the means of a hard-hitting play, speech and pamphlets. The rally successfully left its mark on the minds of all the spectators, as well as in the local newspapers and media.

VIKASPURI , DELHI

The socially conscious lot of West Delhi representing the Vikaspuri centre of DJJS stood against gender based violence and  sensitized  the masses in their vicinity about the pressing need of women empowerment through a mind-throbbing rally, inaugurated by MLA Sh. Mahender Yadav on 8th Dec’ 2015. The participants marched on the roads for 2.5 long hours, spreading awareness and conveying their support to the theme ‘Respect women, elevate the nation’ using thought provoking placards and distributing issue-based sensitizing pamphlets.

LATUR, MAHARASHTRA

The flag off rally was conducted by Latur center of DJJS in Maharashtra, a state that roofs the second largest population in India, and a very low sex ratio at the same time. The two-hour awareness walk, heading towards Sidheshwar Mandir, began from Town Hall spreading the word of awareness in areas like Shivaji chowk and Gandhi chowk, etc. It was initiated by female police officers and sadhvis of DJJS. The rally witnessed 400 female participants dressed in state's traditional attire, on foot as well as on 2-wheelers who howled the slogans on streets and lanes to sensitize masses to stop violence against women. Placards, hoardings and banners of slogans stressing on value for girl child, were some of the agenda points of awareness. At the rally's assembly point, a skit showcasing the discrimination filled life of a girl since birth was presented by young female volunteers. The journey of a girl, from the time she takes her first breath, till the time it gets to survive, it bears the burden of inequality, discrimination, subordination, violence and many such social menaces, was displayed. Towards the end, the participants turned change agents, pledged to unite and direct efforts to re-establish status of women in the society as whole.

 

PATHARDI, MAHARASHTRA

In the 16 days awareness drive startled by DJJS in association with the UN’s ‘Orange the World’ campaign against gender based violence; another mass sensitization walk was organized under the gender equality program 'Santulan' of DJJS by Pathardi centre of the organization in Maharashtra on November 29, 2015. The event began with a dialogue between DJJS Sadhvis on the panel and women invited from nearby localities wherein a discussion was held on the fading glory of womanhood resulting in deterioration of their social statusOne of the participants cum beneficiary of Santulan shared her experience and journey from a victim of violence to a sensitized and empowered peer educator with great pride. Ms. Mangaltai Kokate and Ms. Jyotitai Borude, renowned Nagarsevika of Nagar Parishad, graced the program with their presence and active participation. Post the interactive session, the chief guests hoisted the campaign flag saying "Nari ka sammaan, Vishva ka utthan" and inaugurated the rally. It set forth from Shani Mandir with hundreds of enthusiastic female participants and covered Main Peth, Ajentha Chowk, Naik Chowk, Sai Complex on its way.

 

AMRAVATI, MAHARASHTRA

Amravati centre of Divya Jyoti Jagrati sansthan as a part of the 16 days campaign running across India from 25th Nov i.e. International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to 10th Dec i.e. Human Right’s Day, conducted awareness generating rallies for 2 days in Amravati, Maharashtra. The rally on 26th of Nov began with 90 women volunteers from Divya Jyoti Aashram, Gangotri Colony, Akoli Road, Sai Nagar and walked across areas like Gangotri Colony, Mahabank Colony, Gajanan Mandir Road, Sai Nagar Chowk, Saibaba Udyan Road, Benam Chowk that are usually thronged. On the 28th of Nov, another rally was conducted that commenced from Rajapeth and assembled at Town Hall, Amravati with a team of 170 active women & girl participants. On its way to assembly point, it crossed by Rajapeth Bus stop, Rajapeth Chowk, Rajkamal Chowk, Shyam Chowk, Jaystambh Chowk, Saroj Chowk, Javahar Get, Gandhi Chowk and Ambadevi. Ms. Varsha, Advocate & a social activist, and Dr. Anjali Kuthe, renowned personality from medical fraternity graced the rally with their presence, participation and commitment for future contribution.

 

DUNGERPUR, RAJASTHAN

DJJS Dungerpur stacked another brick by organizing a mass-sensitizing rally in the city on December 1 on the theme "Respect women, elevate the nation". The rally set about from Mahakali mandir in Punarvaas colony was flagged off by Mr. Deependra Singh rathore, SDM of the city. Reiterating the preachings of her master and head & founder of the organization Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, Sadhvi Bhagirathi  Bharti Ji punctuated the fact that only through self-realization i.e. awakening at the soul level, women can realize their self-worth. Further, she disseminated knowledge about the current social status of women quoting statistics of sex ratio, crime against women, and how it is leading to gender-based violence. With the active participation of hundreds of women volunteers including homemakers, school going girls, age old women etc. the rally crossed all major nukkads and lanes of the locality to spread the word of awareness. The volunteers, holding placards and banners, chanted slogans to eliminate violence against women, seek right to equality for girl child and similar gender based issues and distributed awareness pamphlets to masses on their way. Finally, the rally assembled at Mahipal Maidan towards the end wherein all the participants and DJJS disciples pledged to bear the responsibility of creating a brighter, dignified and discrimination free future for women.

 

KARKARDOOMA, NEW DELHI

Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) has undertaken a 16 day nationwide awareness campaign – Respect Women, Elevate the World; against Gender Based Violence running from 25th Nov International day for the elimination of Violence Against Women to 10th Dec 2015 Human Right’s Day, in association with the UN’s Orange the World Campaign. In the same vein, a massive road show in the form of an absolutely ‘dabbang’ rally was organized by the Karkardooma centre of DJJS. With a band of 400 women & girls on bullets, scooties, open jeeps and traditional chariot for more than 5 hours on the roads of East Delhi; a stretch of more than 6kms was from Nirman Vihar Metro Station to the Karkardooma Court covering V3S mall, vikas marg, laxmi nagar, chander nagar, vishwas nagar on its way. The flag off was done by area councilor of Krishna Nagar Ms. Kalpana Jain. Another highlight of the walk that stunned the viewers was a contemporary version of jhanki on open jeeps personifying women icons of past – Rani Jhansi, Mother Teresa, Meera Bai, Jija Bai and few offlate and current inspirations such as Kalpana Chawla, Indira Nooye, Chanda Kochhar etc. The rally with its fervor of shaking the rigid mindsets towards women halted at around 7 different spots wherein though provoking skits were delivered by young volunteers from Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School of Karkardooma, on the overalls of stooping status of women and rising female feticide as a threat to humanity. TV channels like CCN along with Samachar Varta and Dainik Jagran from the print media gave tremendous coverage to the awakening pomp and show by 21st century new age vedic women carved under the divine auspices of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji.

 

MEERUT, UTTAR PRADESH

In the series of nationwide rallies being conducted by the Gender Equality program – Santulan of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) from 25th Nov 2015 i.e. International day for the elimination of Violence Against Women to 10th Dec 2015 i.e. Human Rights Day, another milestone was laid in Meerut City, the crime capital of western UP. As many as 500 women & girls walked down on the roads holding placards for 3 hours from Surajkund park to Jagrati Vihar area covering a stretch of around 5kms. At the commencement of the rally a panel discussion was held in Surajkund park amongst some eminent stakeholders of social welfare – MLA Ravinder Bhadhana, MLA Satya Prakash Aggarwal, BJP Mahila Morcha president Rekha Gupta, Dr. Amita Kaushik  from Mook Badhir Vidyalaya, Sh. Girish Bansal, president Sanatan Dharma Samiti and Sh. Gyanendra Aggarwal, representative Augernath Temple. The flag off was done by MLA Ravinder Bhadhana and MLA Satya Prakash Aggarwal. With the cause of awakening masses towards women safety and dire need to end violence against women; young and dynamic volunteers of DJJS along with participant from RGPG College and Shakuntala Devi Inter College raised slogans against Gender Based Violence.
