From I-ness to I-less!

“I, Shivam and Smith went to attend a discourse.” As per grammar rules, this sentence is incorrect. Can you figure out the error? Grammatically, whenever one has to refer to other people and also one’s own self, then the rule is to mention the other people first and then oneself. Thus the correct sentence would be “Shivam, Smith and I went to attend a discourse.” i.e. ‘I’ should be positioned in the last place and others should be given preference. The fact is that it’s not just a grammar rule which needs to be applied for a correct sentence formation; instead, it’s an important rule for our lives as well, which must be applied in order to have a correct pattern of living. … Is ‘selflessness’ the basic feature of this creation? Well, facts and observations clearly support this truth. … Look at the sun. It shines for all, provides life and growth for all without demanding anything in return. A tree generously offers its shade and sweet fruits to whosoever  comes to it. A flower spends its entire life to fill our lives with fragrance. A river… … It is said that human beings are genetically designed to be selfless. Not only does anthropology (social science) say so, but research too supports the same. However, today man seems to have lost this basic attribute. Today, the philosophy of ‘I, me and mine’ dominates the world. So, how can we reach the state from I-ne…

High Heels = Low Health

This fashion-conscious young generation likes to be in sync with the times. But, this may lead them to slip out in staying in sync with their health. … They are particular about the food they eat; they check the purity of water they drink; and, they also stay aware about the quality of air they breathe. But, still many of them tend to miss out on some issues due to the lack of awareness. We believe in filling that gap for you and bring to you… all aspects of body and mind, right from ‘head to heels.’ Oops! Did we say ‘heels’? …Nevertheless, now that we mentioned “High heels,” it does remind us of the lifestyle hazard that bring with them, and we would like to share with you. No doubt, most young women like to wear stilettos, for different reasons like trying to look taller, looking fashionable, etc.  Irrespectively though, research- based evidence indicated that wearing high heels may not be so high for their health. … Dr. Blitz adds, “Long term use of high heels causes shortening of the Achilles tendon, resulting in more pressure being placed on the ball of the foot.”  … Though stretching would ease out the problem, but, in case the problem becomes pathological, lengthening of the Achilles tendon or cutting a muscle in the calf is recommended in such cases.” … But Dear Readers, that’s not all; there is more to come. People who wear high heels have also been…

The Story of the Seed

Lying dormant under the depth of earth was a tiny seed. Unaware of who it was? What was the purpose of its life? Sleeping under the covers of earth was all that life mean to it. In that chilly weather, the cosy cover of earth was all that one would need, thought the seed, and continued to live joyously. Then the winter passed by and the summer came. The sun rose up in the horizon. Slowly, the heat of the sun melted the eyes....  The seed was hurt and felt highly irritated; it seemed as if someone had come to destroy its peace. It felt as if its world was lost....  The rising sun stood there smiling and the seed was full of rage and despair. The seed stood staring in anger. Then came the evening, the sun dipped down the horizon and seed thought, the sun got scared of its anger... Hours passed and the sun rose again, high in the sky.... The dawn come again but with a strange change. The sun was not seen. Dark, thundery and rainy was scene... And then, with a thunder, the clouds burst out buckets of water all over the earth... Alas, what was that? The seed was shocked to see water all around. Fearing to drown, it rose in a sudden frown to its left and to its right. But all was water, all around, rising sharply to make it drown. Who came to rescue the seed and what did  the story of seed represent? To know this and further more, read the complete article of April month, English Akhand Gyan magazine.
