Come Out of Your Comfort Zone

Listen to the conversation between two seeds that rested on the lap of mother earth side by side… The first seed: Hey! I am looking forward to those days when I will grow up into a plant smiling under the blue sky amongst my other friends blossoming around. A new life altogether… with new experiences and new learning! Although, I know it will demand a lot of efforts from my end. But, never mind! Why fear? I am all set now to send my roots deep into the soil below and sprout through the soil above. The second seed: I differ. Why unnecessarily make life so troublesome when you can comfortably stay here? By digging the roots into the ground below, you can’t imagine what all you will have to face in the dark. And, by pushing up through the hard soil, your delicate sprouts will get damaged… Therefore, by all means, it is much better to stay here. And, so, the first seed grew while the second one waited. Unfortunately, a yard hen came scratching the ground for food, located the seed and popped it in its mouth. Could you catch the message from the above conversation? It says: Come out of your comfort zone if you want to flourish; else you may perish! …Right from the beginning of life, when a child comes into this world, at every stage, he has to choose struggles and challenges while leaving his comfort zone if he has to grow and live.  …He has to learn to stand on his feet and walk. A big challenge indeed! … Likewise, at…

Medicinal Music

We often listen to music to feel good. But, do you know, listening to the right kind of music and in a proper way is medicinal, too. How? Let’s explore… Medicinal Music Fact #1 Music can lower the levels of … The number one enemy of man in today’s competitive world is the stress hormone, cortisol. This enemy is known to interfere with our memory, weight, cholesterol and immunity. However, one of the best and free medicinal treatments for lowering the effect of attack of this enemy is to listen to soft music. Music embedded with inspirational lyrics is more effective for this treatment. …In astudy by Miluk et al., they examined on a group of patients the importance of listening to music in reducing stress. The study dealt with measuring the cortisol levels in patients when they were informed that they undergo a surgery the next day. The patients were divided into two groups. One group of patients heard music immediately after the news, while the other group listened to no music. In the experiment, it was found that the news about surgery produced a 50% increase in cortisol within 15 minutes in both the surgical groups. However, the group that listened to music showed reduction in the cortisol level. On the other hand, the patients who did not listen to music displayed a higher level of cortisol. For this reason, R&D is being done on the fact that music can potentially be used in clinical settings, in which negative emotions such a…

Don’t Restrict but Remove R Rated Movies

It is undeniable that the media casts an influence on the minds of everyone. However, influence on the minds of children is much greater. For, the young nurturing minds are still not mature to discriminate and do not have a clear understanding, but, most importantly, are in the process of potentially shaping their later life. Contextually, in general, modern-day movies, especially R-rated movies (restricted for children below 18 years) are not very healthy to indulge into, due to their violent or sexually explicit content (rape, murder, terrorism, savage beatings/beheadings, torture, etc.), abusive language used, or the horror sensationalism in the cases of horror movies. The context assumes greater importance when R-rated movies seem to be increasingly finding their way among children and teenagers (especially those aged < 14-15 years) and the impression they are creating in these yet not so mature minds. It’s basically today’s technological advancing age of the Internet and cable television, which offers an easy access of these movies to children, and renders even the laws enforced in theatres practically useless. This amplifies the problem for our shaping future generation… …The fact that the media has an excessive influence on children’s mind can be gauged by the fact that with increasing regularity, we hear news of someone, somewhere doing something weird and wacky that he or she saw on television or movie and trying to emulate it. Th…
