Prayer and Spirituality at Workplace

Workplace often seems to sound synonyms to 'stress,' with companies keeping an eye on the bottom line and simultaneously attempting to improve the productivity. Everyone is loaded with a set of duties and responsibilities. In such a scenario, peace and calmness is something which everyone direly seeks, be it the business owners or the employees. In this regard, can prayers or meditation at the workplace offer any resort? When the answer can be deduced from the striking case studies carried out with respect to this question. In the words of Mr. David Price, a former attorney, media and legislative representative for Christian Science in Colorado- "One of the many lessons I learned in my legal career was the importance of taking time out of my day to meditate and pray. And those times that I  didn't take time for myself, I saw a distinct difference in my mood, my stress level, my ability to work, and my attitude. And those factors directly related to the success and health of my business and my body. A survey was conducted in this context. Just throw a glance at some of the observations with respect to the effect of prayer and meditation at the workplace- * 91 per cent were found saying that it positively impacted the culture * 66 per cent mentioned that they experienced less stress or possessed better stress-management capabilities * 63 per cent stated that they were able to manage themselves at work better * 60 per cent repor…

Decoding Life- Beyond Breaths!

‘Breath is Life’- No explanation is required to prove it or get convinced about it. However the irony is- The wise ones say that ninety nine per cent of us do not breathe properly! Not only that. As a matter of fact, we are ignorant about what depth is inherent when we equate it to life or our existence. Let’s try to unfold the underlying layers of what we term as ‘breath’ and identify the fundamental substratum, from where life actually sprouts. Once the basis is discovered, believe us, you will indeed gain a fabulous understanding about life itself and how to live it to the fullest! Essentially there are three levels into which this subject can be bifurcated, subsequently taking us from the gross to the subtlest. Let’s begin with the gross level, the most outward expression of that energy which sustains us. Physical Breath (the gross level) From the gross perspective, breathing is a simple exercise of inhalation and exhalation, which works on its own, automatically. A breath, in turn, to us, often means taking in a few cubic centimetres of air (oxygen) and giving out some cubic centimetres of carbon dioxide. Of course, this information is true, but, it’s largely incomplete. However, it will be beneficial to imbibe the significance of even this gross definition of breath. Reason being, it will inspire us to adopt a healthier lifestyle and save ourselves from the deleterious outcomes with respect to our physical breath, which re…

Understanding Spirituality through Experiments

A number of experiments and studies are conducted from time to time pertaining to human psychology and behaviour. As a matter of fact, these studies can only highlight certain aspect of human instincts and tendencies. However, the world of spirituality presents the remedies as well for the maladies projected through these experiments. Spirituality put forth the same aspect from an entirely new perspective and a higher dimension. We can comprehend this truth from some of the research studies presented below. ... From getting impacted to leaving an impact! This experiment is famous by the name- 'The Monster Study'. In 1993, a professor of the University of lowa, Dr. Wendell Johnson, conducted this study. He took 22 orphan children as a part of this study. These children were bifurcated into two groups. Children in one group were praised for their speech; however, the children in other group were demeaned for every word that they said. Although they had no speech problem in reality, but they were derided and told that they were stuttering. Result? Most of the children from the second group took the abuses to their hearts and reacted strangely to the comments. Some gasped; some hung their heads, while some of them covered their mouths with hands. On the whole, they developed permanent speech problems after the experiment! As a matter of fact, on giving a deep thought, we will find that almost each one of us is a victim of this malady- the problem of get…
