'All about tree plantation': A special capacity building workshop for MEMR Nature Conservators

Building capacities to firmly wage war against the growing environmental crisis, DJJS Sanrakshan led, My Earth My Responsibility campaign organised a special “All about Tree Plantation” capacity building workshop for MEMR Nature Conservators on Friday, 8May 2015 at DJJS Kailash Nagar Ashram. Motivated and inspired by the epoch- making visionary His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, Head and founder of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan, these young MEMR Nature Conservators have been leading the movement of environmental change in the city for past 9 months. From awareness generation to sensitization walks to cleanliness drives and tree plantations they have done it all.

To add to their skills and deepen their understanding on the art of tree plantation, the said special workshop was organised. Mr. Daljeet Singh Brar, Divisional Forest Officer, and Mr. Khushwinder Singh, Forest Range Officer were the special experts who were invited to undertake this workshop.  Extending their expertise and sharing their on ground experiences in the area of forest conservation and tree plantation, Mr. Brar said that, “tree plantation stands as the most important step we ought to take in order to combat the ever- rising issue of climate change”. He further explained that “February – march and July- august are best months to plant trees and people should be motivated and supported to undertake plantations during these months”.

In the 2 hour session, the experts educated the volunteers on various aspects of tree plantation right from size of pit to the suitable varieties of plantation. A special Q&A session was also kept in the schedule, wherein the volunteers asked their queries from environment experts and shared problems they come across in the process of sensitizing people.

The session came to a close, with a concluding note by Mr. Tarsem Singh, Coordinator, MEMR Ludhiana chapter and disciple of His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharaj ji, emphasizing the fact that  “just planting trees and leaving them to nature for growth and development is not enough, each tree planted should be taken care off as now we can’t afford to lose even a single tree”.
