Chandigarh: The city Chandigarh that on one hand carries tags of ‘cleanest city’ (Basis: Swachh Bharat Sarvekshan), ‘happiest city’ (Basis: Happiness index), ‘smart city’ (Basis: Smart Cities Mission), also on the other hand, is the city that witnesses as low sex ratio as 818-third lowest in the country. The dark and threatening reality behind this beauteous city made it the first target for DJJS Haryana to take off its drive of activities under the yearlong campaign ‘Tu Hai Shakti’ launched on March 27, 2016 against sex selective abortions. The volunteers trained in Training of Trainers on May 21st in Haryana are on the field with full enthusiasm to walk briskly towards attainment of desired goal.

The program was commenced with deep prajwalan by the guests and DJJS branch coordinator Swami Guru Kirpanand ji followed by a series of mesmerising devotional bhajans. A beauteous and traditional dance performance was presented by Chandigarh volunteers followed by a formidable but dispiriting skit portraying the journey from gender discrimination to crime against women. Sadhvi Garima Bharti ji delivered a spiritual discourse discussing the paradox of undue prevalence of kanya poojan and crimes like kanya bhroon hatya on same land. She accentuated the fact that such ill social practices respire in so called high societies and educated class as well. She also shed light on the scenario without girls where there are no festivals like rakshabandhan, teej etc. which sounds hypothetical today but possess the potential to become a reality tomorrow. A stand-up comedy was also presented to convey the objective with satire.

Towards the end, Chief Guest Mr. Rakesh Gupta expressed a note of appreciation towards DJJS ceaseless and transforming initiatives in gender perspective. Mr. Gupta also acknowledged the existence of crime against women and government’s ongoing initiatives in this regard. The program was concluded with a thank you note by branch coordinator.
