Conference on ‘Significance of Awareness on Drug Abuse’ held at Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh

As part of the awareness session drive, which has been commenced recently, at Educational Institutions in Gorakhpur, UP, a conference on ‘Significance of Preventive Education on Drug Abuse at Educational Institutions’ was organized, in order for the achievement of the above mentioned goal. The event was graced with the presence of Nirmala Devi, The President, Mandal Mahila Manch(BJP), Mr. Arun kumar Mishra, The Director, Aakash Institute, Bhopal, Ms. Suman Mishra , an eminent and renowned social activist and 40 other participants including teachers, principals, professors and management teams of  various Schools.

This conference is of utmost significance, on account of the gravity of the problems and issues, cropping out of drug abuse or addiction and it's illegal trafficking in the society, especially, amongst the youth. As much as the gateway drugs like alcohol and tobacco use is rising, so is the use of deadly drugs, such as, heroine, cannabis, opium etc. So far, 43.9% of its users are found using heroine in Uttar Pradesh, owing its success to easy availability at every nook and corner of the state.

In 1917, Mahatma Gandhi, while addressing the All India Social Service Conference in Calcutta, had said:

“The cocaine habit is sapping the nation’s manhood, and that like the drink habit, it is on the track of its increment in its effect more deadly than drink.”

That's what the state of Uttar Pradesh is witnessing today. With which, such hazardous consequences shall further result into serious hampering of socio-economic growth and multi-dimensional development of the country. In which case, the topics for discussion of this conference provide provocative mental exercises to discernly find a solution to this cataclysm. Swami Arjunanand Ji, disciple of His Holiness, Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, Head & founder, Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan, who is also coordinating the Branch Office at Gorakhpur, delivered a profoundly sensitizing speech, while giving solutions on ‘how inculcating values in students since inception can diminish theirs inclination & psychology to experiment with drugs’. He also shared the future plan of DJJS under Bodh, The Drug Abuse Eradication Program, relating to the strategies and plans to be taken up in order to spread the message of ‘Say No to Drugs’ to 56 selected villages and cities within the vicinity of Gorakpur branch.

At the end, Nirmala Devi, President, Mandal Mahila Manch(BJP), said, Every limb of the State administration and other stakeholders, dealing with the problem of drug abuse have to play a definite and pragmatic role to achieve the objective of establishing a Drug Free Society'.

Bodh- the drug abuse eradication program of DJJS, works for the elimination of drug abuse and eradication of drug demand through ‘Dhyan Therapy’, thereby transforming the drug afflicted society into an abuse free society; where people are mentally, emotionally and spiritually strong to safeguard themselves and the society against drug and substance abuse.
