The meaning of the word Deepawali is known to all - the festival of lights - but what is lesser known is the literal meaning of Deepawali - a chain of Diyas. Diwali denotes the victory of good over evil, victory of righteousness over the wrong. It is celebrated across the world with immense enthusiasm, brotherhood, and love.  Diwali holds such great importance for everyone, from small children and grown-ups to elderly people, and in the wake of this occasion, Manthan Sampoorna Vikas Kendra - an initiative of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan, providing holistic education to underprivileged children - celebrated Diwali to enlighten the Diya of Knowledge with great fervor and gratitude. Decorated with vibrant Rangolis and flowers, Manthan’s centres across India dressed up in ethnic celebration. With increased awareness among children on ill-effects of crackers, students of Manthan SVK pledged for an eco-friendly and green Diwali this year. The students were sensitized about the high pollution levels on and after Diwali that causes suffering to all, especially asthma patients. Students raised slogans to convey the idea of a Green Diwali. They displayed banners and placards projecting the idea of ‘Clean India, Green India’, making an appeal to ‘Say no to Crackers’. Students also made eco-friendly Ganesh idols from clay with devotion, passion and creativity.

Diwali also marks the end of the harvest season. Farmers are thankful for the plentiful bounty of the year, and when one has such a good harvest, one would share happiness with everybody else – a good reason why we started exchanging gifts and sweets; maintaining this custom, the students shared sweets with each other. Teachers explained the significance of the five days that comprise the festival, namely, Dhanteras, Chhoti Diwali, Diwali, Govardhan Pooja and Bhai Dooj. DJJS Preacher Swami Gurukripanand Ji delivered powerful orations of motivation and talked about the significance of Diwali, inspiring the children to be the torch-bearers on the path of light and education. Finally, sending heartiest Diwali wishes on behalf of Manthan SVK to everyone!
