To mark ‘World diabetes day’ 2015, Amritsar branch of Divya Jyoti jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) organized an ‘Ayurvedic Health checkup Camp’ for the Awareness and Treatment of Diabetes at Company Garden in Amritsar, Punjab on 29th November 2015. The aim of the camp was to increase an awareness of the effects of diabetes and also provide ayurvedic cure for diabetes amongst the general population.

Diabetes mellitus (Madhumeha) is a chronic metabolic disorder in which the body is unable to make proper use of glucose resulting in hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and glycosuria (sugar in Urine). Poorly managed diabetes can lead to a host of long term complication like: Heart attacks, Strokes, Blindness, Nerve damage, Amputation of Limb, etc.

A huge gathering of patients of different age groups benefitted from this camp, which included free screening of diabetes, free consultation for Diabetics, blood sugar estimation, investigations, free medications for diagnosed diabetics and awareness literature. Eminent Ayurveda experts provided their consultancy to around 236 patients (176 men and 60 women). Cabinet Minister Sh. Anil Joshi and Mayor Sh. Bakshi Ram Arora graced the occasion by their presence. They also visited stalls of ayurvedic medicines and products manufactured by SAM Ayurvedic Pharmacy at Nurmahal, and appreciated the effort of DJJS.

An Exhibition was put to create awareness about Diabetes mellitus (Madhumeha), which sensitized about its ‘Causes and Symptoms’, ‘Myths and Realty about diabetes’, ‘Do’s and Don’ts for Diabetes’, ‘Remedies’, ‘exercises’ and ‘Diet tips for Diabetes’. Well researched ayurvedic medicines, especially ‘Madhunil’ for diabetes mellitus of SAM Pharmacy, were provided to patients at concessional price. Although focus was on pulse diagnosis, camp organizers also made special arrangements for gluco- testing and blood pressure measurement. A large number of patients have been detected with higher level of blood sugar.
