First puff is not always the last Puff!

This is what the story of today’s youth depicts. It always starts with a snowball and soon turns into an unstoppable avalanche. Drugs have become the walking stick for the young, and the dependency on them is growing like never before. “I will just try it once, won’t get hooked on to it” that’s what they say at first. But soon a recreational weekend turns into everyday ritual, an aimless wander into the unknown.

Reasons are manifold but the result is one, i.e. addiction.

Studies show that

EACH DAY, BETWEEN 80,000 TO 1, 00, 000 CHILDREN START SMOKING IN INDIA.

EVERY 8 SECOND, SOMEONE IS DYING DUE TO TOBACCO USE IN INDIA.

Facts are heart-rending and pain giving but they are stating the reality. Youth, the nation’s backbone is getting dragged day by day into the deep pit of drug abuse. Situation is no better in any part of the nation. According to the surveys and studies, In Delhi, the capital city of India, in average, two-three cases get registered daily due to overdose of drug from school students only.

Therefore, prevention measures should be taken on higher priority to lessen the no. of fatal death due to drug abuse. So, in order to achieve the same, DJJS, Karkardooma covers the west side of Delhi to generate the awareness and sensitize the masses about the ill effects and ways of not getting into the trap of drug abuse. The karkardooma branch is successfully doing this work from past many months. In addition to this, a program was held in July 2014 , with street theatre as its main core, to sensitize the youth, parents, children, and people from all walks of life.
