Earth Hour is observed every year across the world on last Saturday of March by turning off lights and all electrical appliances for an hour as an endeavor to arrest climate change. It was first celebrated in Sydney, Australia as a lights-off event in 2007. Climate change being the most critical environmental threat attracted more and more countries, communities and organizations joining the earth hour movement to support the cause.
DJJS observed Earth Hour 2015 across India at its various branches by not just switching off lights for an hour from 8:30 – 9:30 pm, but meditating through the hour to spiritually re- energize the earth. In addition, DJJS went Earth Hour plus by undertaking special mass sensitization initiatives through candle marches and climate change workshops.
Under the divine guidance of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, DJJS Nature Conservation program, Sanrakshan, has been celebrating the hour since last 5 years across the DJJS network of branches in India. Lakhs of devotees of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj ji across the country, devote their spiritual energies to rejuvenate the earth with positivity by meditating during the hour. The unique initiative carved by His Holiness, is actually revival of the Vedic methodology followed by sages and seers who realized oneness with cosmos in deep meditation and dedicated their spiritual energy to maintain cosmic balance as well as lived lives which were pro- environmental.
Before the meditation session, a special climate change awareness workshop was undertaken to sensitize the participants on the concept of Earth Hour, carbon footprint, sustainable living and many other terms that are uncommon for people at grassroot level. In addition they were motivated to adopt sustainable living practices to make each hour and hour for Mother Earth.
