Generating mass awareness on the burning issue of education, Manthan-Sampoorn Vikas Kendra (SVK) at Rithala observed the International Literacy Day today. The event was marked with an inspiring STREET PLAY and poem recitation by Manthanites.

The students of Rithala SVK belong to a slum locality of Rag pickers. Mostly children of this community are out-of-school and only a very few attend government schools.

Taking ahead the mission of Manthan, the team surveyed the nearby area and encouraged people to send their children to Manthan-SVK at Rithala. The team also visited another locality where people were acquainted with this noble cause and motivated to come forward for support.

The International Literacy Day is observed by UNESCO every year on September 8. With a new theme every time, this day aims to highlight the significance of education as it strengthens the core foundation of individuals and empowers them to take right decisions as well as lend a contribution to social causes like environment etc.

This year's theme for the International Literacy Day is 'Literacy and Sustainable Development'.

The event was graced by Mrs. Nargis Jamal, President- WEIF, Canada. She distributed Manthan School Bags to children encouraging them towards learning.
