Manthan-SVK, social initiative of DJJS for the education of deprived children assures to provide learning platforms to the students so as to develop holistically. Recently, five students from Manthan –SVK, Badli participated in four days Winter Robotics Camp organised from 9th to 13th March 2020 in ATL (Atal Tinkering Lab) at Darbari Lal DAV Model School, Pitampura, New Delhi.

The winter robotics camp included activities for boosting problem solving skills, learning to design webpage, projects using ‘Arduino’ (single-board microcontrollers for building digital device), drone workshop and flowchart & algorithms.

On the very first Day of the camp, Ms. Tanya Thukral (Mentor of change, from STEAM Edu.) took session on Program Development Life Cycle (PDLC) where in students learnt sequence of fundamental steps in doing any innovation. Stating the shloka, “अयोग्यः पुरुषो नास्ति, योजकस्तत्र दुर्लभः” she explained that there is no one incompetent, whereas everyone has potential but must make good use of it after identifying it. She pointed out significantly, that empathy and emotional quotient is as essential factors as intelligence quotient in any programming or new creation.

In second half session, the circuit diagram of water tank alarm bell was taught theoretically and practically too by school teachers; Ms. Aneesha and Ms. Poonam. During this they learnt doing 'Soldering' (A process to form a permanent physical connection between electronic components). At the end they could make the functioning water tank Bell as an outcome.

On second Day, Ms. Charu, Mentor from DAV, took a session on Problem Solving, where in Video brain games were discussed that activates problem solving skills. Also, students learnt to work with Arduino kit (single-board micro-controllers for building digital device). They made basic LED blink circuit and Pulse Sensor Circuit under the guidance of trainer Mr. Rohit Puri.

On third day a workshop on drone was conducted by Mr. Raghav kapoor from organization, ‘Aavishkaar’.  Aeromodeling, wind resistance, movement of drones, Parts of drone and four different sensors were discussed.

On last day of the camp, students were taught about webpages using Adobe spark application. In second half of the session, flowcharts and algorithms were taught. Students were given worksheets to analyse and evaluate the learnt concepts.

Manthanites presented their honour and thankfulness by handing over a self-made thank you card to the respected school principal. During the workshop students were able to learn new terms and technology. On completion of the workshop students were given participation certificate. This is indeed a rewarding association to bridge the existing gaps in education prevalent today.
