Marching high to combat low status of women in Allahabad, U.P.

Women's accomplishments and shine in all spheres perhaps need not be highlighted. However, these earnings fall short when it comes to their overall status and recognition resulting in female fetus killing. To bring change in this critical situation, DJJS, under its Gender Equality Program-"Santulan" is organizing awareness walks across the nation with a vision of total transformation in existing societal pattern and elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women particularly sex selective abortions. In the same series, an awareness walk was organized in Allahabad on August 8, 2014 to sow a seed of change.

Initially, the participants gathered with all enthusiasm, at a place to plan and strategise the event. The panel member delivered a lecture gearing the participants for the rally.

With a strength of approximately 400 females, the 3 hours rally took off from Gayatri Garden and moved forward spreading words of awareness in Civil Lines, Subhash Chauraha, DRM Office, Powerhouse Crossing, Damkal ghar, Hanuman Mandir, Loksewa Aayog, Ek lavya Crossing and Subhash Chauraha.

Women officers in uniform as personifications of empowerment led the rally. Keeping in mind the agenda of empowering women to have a say in society and voice against female feticide, the participants chanted slogans to save girl child and respect women.

Renowned personalities of the area who have leapt out as idols, like Smt Archna Dwivedi from City Magistrate, Smt Pooja Pal, MLA of Shaher Paschimi and Pratima Singh, SO of Mahila Thana, Civil Lines, adorned the program with their presence.
