Lazy Sunday evening became a pro-environmental retreat for residents of Sec 36 as DJJS Nature conservators performed a sensitizing Nukad Natak (street play) on theme of environment conservation at the famous Fragrance Park of the sector.
Leading the My Earth My Responsibility Chandigarh Chapter, these young selfless volunteers initiated by His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, head and founder of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan, made the audience revisit and review their very own Chandigarh with an environmental lens through their enlightening performance. Witnessing their own actions and behaviour in the scenes performed, some smiled, some gaped and some went into deep introspection.
The idea of the play was to give an insight into one’s own daily actions and behaviour as ignorant and self- centred human action lies at the root of all environmental problems. Motivating the audience to understand and shoulder their environmental responsibility, the play also showcased several green tips for environment responsible living at homes, schools, offices and streets.
All impressed, motivated and inspired by the insightful performance several men, women and children who had come out on their daily fitness walk or play came forward to be a part of the DJJS Sanrakshan & SIOLI (Lawyers Initiative for Social Responsibility) led My Earth My responsibility campaign in their city.
The play was followed by a sensitizing lecture by Sadhvi Manasvani Bharti Ji, ascetic disciple of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji. Highlighting the gravity of the current environmental problem, she informed the audience that, “Scientists say if we continue to live the way we are living today then by 2035 we would need 2 earths to satiate the needs of the population. But there is only one earth”. She urged the audience, “it’s high time we check our demands, our actions and our lifestyles and take on to the conservation pathway before it’s too late. It’s now or never”.
DJJS Sanrakshan in association with SIOLI- Lawyers Initiative for Social Responsibility started it’s My Earth My Responsibility campaign in Chandigarh in Dec 2015,. The aim of the campaign is to steer Chandigarh towards being a model of environmentally responsible society in India. Under this campaign, the organisation will be undertaking several pro- environmental initiatives like tree plantation, cleanliness drives, solid waste management as well as sensitizing activities like workshops, rallies, plays, seminars and conferences.
