‘walk through villages’ – a women empowerment drive launched by Santulan – the Gender Equality Program of DJJS in Meerut
DJJS Meerut: The Gender Equality Program of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) – Santulan through its Branch Office at Meerut, U.P. held discussions with women farmers in gender perspective. The day to day news updates highlighting rising atrocities against women and their ever stooping status in Uttar Pradesh mark it as an unsafe and most vulnerable state for women to exercise free and empowered life. Therefore, against this backdrop, Santulan has launched a dedicated ‘walk through villages’ – a woman empowerment drive in the heart of Uttar Pradesh – Meerut to make women aware about their civil rights as well as their self worth as a spiritual being.
The Sadhvi disciples of Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, founder and head of DJJS personally meet, interact and counsel disadvantaged and underprivileged women in the communities, streets and farms too. Commenced on 15th May 2015, the campaign conceives a vision plan of covering atleast forty villages by the end of next eight months. Kazipur village on Meerut bypass road stood as first beneficiary of sansthan’s woman empowerment drive in U.P.
When enquired by Sadhvi Lokesha Bharti Ji, coordinator of Meerut branch of DJJS, the women of Kazipur working in the farms said, “As daily wagers we work in these farms and earn a living for our children.” “What do your husbands do?” asked sadhvi ji. The evergreen weed of violence which has sickened women’s life was reiterated by the women farmers highlighting the fact that their husbands are drunkards and spend all their money on addictive substances. “The sons are no less, they have also developed addiction for alcohol and beat us”, said one of the women.
On the contrary, santulan’s mandate of elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women is raising societal consciousness on the agenda of women’s dignity across India. Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji’s unique tool of self realization – Brahmgyan is bringing holistic empowerment even amongst uneducated women thereby making them stand against any kind of physical or mental torture since three decades.
