'SPARE US, WE DON'T WANT TO INHALE', voice raised against ‘Passive Smoking’ at Chandigarh, Bathinda, Jalandhar and DMK in Punjab

With an aim to change the identity of one the most prosperous states of India i.e. Punjab, from being a “Drug Afflicted State” to a “Drug Free State”, Divya Jyoti Jagarti Sanshan under the banner of its drug abuse eradication program – Bodh marked World Drug Day 2015 at its four branches namely- Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Bathinda and Dabwali Malkoki.

Raising their voice against the mental and health terrorism or violence done to the children in form of “Passive Smoking”, the young brigade of volunteers of Chandigarh and Bathinda branch took out a rally ‘spare us, we don’t want to inhale’ on this occasion. The two processions covered areas in and around Yamnika Park in Sec 15, Chandigarh and Barnala Road in Bathinda respectively. In support, Chandigarh branch had also put an information counter while the Bodh team in Bathinda executed Door-to –Door Counseling so that people could get in detail information on passive smoking and how they can save their loved ones.

On the other hand, Jalandhar branch of the organization sought to sensitize the masses especially parents on the issue of passive smoking itself through an awareness program organized in Vishkarma Mandir Ground in Sanjay Gandhi Nagar. The program focused on some key issues related to passive smoking like increasing deaths, thickening of blood vessel walls, increasing risk of heart attacks and strokes and many more. More than 150 parents and elders attended the program and hence pledged to “Stay Healthy and Drug Free”.  Dr. S. P. Dogra (EX. President National Integrated Medical Association), many Consultant Physicians from Postal & RMS Department, Members of ESI Corporation of India, Members of ASUDTAB, Drug & Cosmetic Act, Govt. of India, graced the event and shared their expertise with audience.

At the same time, DMK center was invited by Genius Dance and Bhangra Academy, to deliver an insightful lecture on the theme Drugs does not harm a man but the entire mankind focusing on the issue of passive smoking again. The facilitators from Program Bodh guided around 100 people on the subject and encouraged them to live “Live a Drug Free Life”.
