Someone has rightly said, “When we learn how to become resilient, we learn how to embrace the beautifully broad spectrum of human experience.”
The uncertainties that the COVID-19 pandemic brought could not deter Manthan SVK from imparting education to our student beneficiaries. Adoption of a virtual teaching medium required changes in the curriculum, teaching patterns and technical grooming of the teachers and volunteers. Furthermore, hurdles such as the prolonged lockdown, inaccessibility of smartphone devices, lack of internet connectivity and geographical and linguistic diversity across Indian states also posed a challenge to our endeavour. We also needed to help the children cover the part of the syllabus which they had missed out. We are glad to share that all these obstacles were faced resiliently and overcome consistently. Eventually, we were able to shift to the virtual medium completely and are now glad to announce the commencement of our next academic session, 2021-22.
In fact, with the new academic session, Manthan SVK has decided to make the virtual classroom a pan-India initiative! Student registrations for classes 1 to 12 were sought from DJJS branches across the country and we have received immense enthusiastic participation, with around 950 student enrolments and 330 teachers and volunteers.
The virtual classroom programme has been divided into two phases with respect to the different academic levels of students. The first phase includes classes 1 to 5. These classes began in the month of July 2021. Basic concepts of Mathematics, English, Hindi, and Environmental Science are being taught to the learners of the first phase. The second phase includes classes 6 to 12 and their lessons began in August 2021. For higher secondary grades (11 and 12), classes for subjects pertaining to three different streams - Arts, Commerce and Science - are also being arranged.
In addition, regular Grooming Sessions are being organised for teachers and volunteers regarding online teaching tools that make virtual classes more interactive. All these steps accentuate the vision of Manthan SVK and help make holistic education available to students who belong to economically challenged households across the country.
