Amravati: Commending women achievers for their extraordinary works has formed an important aspect of the Gender Equality program of DJJS namely Santulan over the past six years. Like the change management approach of appreciative enquiry used in the marketing sector, the whole idea of awarding women works to strengthen the spine of empowerment within them. Santulan has been acknowledging women achievers and icons of empowerment since past six years and honouring them through Annual Santulan Awards.

This year the program has undertaken series of "Annual Santulan Awards" in six states of the country - Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh in the month of March, re-naming it as Women's month wherein the Maharashtra chapter was conducted on March 29, 2015 at the Nehru maidan town hall of Amravati in Maharashtra wherein ten women from the state were awarded for their exemplary achievements by the Hon’ble MP Sh. Anandrao Adsud.

The event began with lamp-lighting by the Chief Guest Hon’ble MP Sh. Anandrao Adsud and the Guests of Honour nationally acclaimed Social worker Mrs. Sharmatai Deshmukh, Mayor of Amravati Mrs. Reematai Luky Nanda, M. L. A. Mrs. Yashomati Thakur and Mr. Govind Kasat who is also a Social Worker. Thereby, team of young volunteers presented a sensitizing skit portraying women power. The audience was spellbound with the subject & performance and the appreciation was expressed in the form of tears and applauds. Sadhvi Shitabha Bharti Ji, disciple of Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji delivered a though provoking speech on the contrasting status of women in the two extremes vis’a’vis the elite and the underprivileged/disadvantaged taking Mumbai as a case study.

After the speech that aroused much needed sensitivity amongst all, the Chief Guest of the event Hon’ble MP Sh. Anandrao Adsud and the Guests of Honour Mrs. Sharmatai Deshmukh,  Mrs. Reematai Luky Nanda, M. L. A. Mrs. Yashomati Thakur and Mr. Govind Kasat awarded women achievers of Maharashtra vis’a’vis Smt. Rajni Kanhaiyalal Rathi for unique contributions in literature, cultivation and tourism sectors, Mrs. Kumudini Sudam Ingale who is a philanthropist, Mrs. Sadhana Rajendra Mhaske who is farmer by profession and is actively involved in creating livelihood opportunities for underprivileged women, Mrs. Gauritai Ayyer, an academician, Dr. Mrs. Anjali Sanjay Kuthe providing medical services to society, Smt. Vidyatai Vilasrao Tayade helding AIDS afflicted people for earning livelihoods, Smt. Arunadevi Vinodrao Vora, exemplary performance in the field of finance, Smt. Sandhyatai Bhanudas Bokey, a retired principal and is working for social welfare, Mrs. Kavita Vijay Kevatkar playing presenditial role and Smt. Gangutai Hiregaud, a successful entrepreneur.

Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan is a socio spiritual organization which is working for the establishment of world peace through its 9-point social reforms and welfare programs, santulan being the dedicated initiative working with a mandate of elimination of all forms of discrimination & violence against women particularly sex selective abortions. For the realization of the same, santulan holds number of awareness drives, mass sensitization campaigns, rallies, street theatre conferences and workshops in communities as well as corporate sector.
