With the grand vision of alleviating Indian agriculture from the present day agrarian crisis, DJJS Hitkari Kheti also takes the role of an active Organic Farming Research and Learning Centre. Being one the most expansive models of organic farming spread over 150 acres and demonstrating diverse best practices of organic farming, DJJS Hitkari Kheti is centre attracting farmers, experts, students, researchers working in the sector.
To facilitate this knowledge sharing we undertake special customized advocacy workshops on different themes like Fundamentals of organic farming, Understanding the soils, Learning from the nature, Conservation and improvement of Desi (Indian) seeds and Vedic Wisdom and Sustainable Agriculture. The idea is to demystify the myths prevailing around organic farming including its high cost, lesser yields, inability to cope with onslaught of pest, low profitability.
To build confidence in the success and ease of organic farming, we take them on specially crafted educative tour of Hitkari farms to give them a live demonstration of our processes, functioning and practices. In addition, we aid farmers with successful methodologies to shift from chemical agriculture to nature- based agriculture.
DJJS has played a pioneering role in advocating for the elimination of farm burning practice and has been rigorously educating farmers about its degrading impacts on soil health. Enlightened by these advocacy sessions, hundreds of farmers have vowed to keep away from farm burning and pledged to protect their soils.
