Reliving the Tradition of Daan djjs blog

Manthan Sampoorna Vikas Kendra is a holistic education programme, working since 2008, for a Saakshar Bharat, Sashakt Bharat. As an aim, Manthan works to integrate the lives of underprivileged children with mainstream education by providing comprehensive and continuous support. Our ideology includes constant encouragement, provision of stepping-stones, and the setting up of a positive environment suitable for the children’s growth and progress.

Manthan’s work begins, not at the school level, but at a personal level; in the creation of close contact with parents living in urban slums, rag-picking colonies and other remote neighbourhoods. This step forms the base of the probability of whether children in that locality will be attending school or not. Once this important foundation is set, we work to build the superstructure of education through various Upgrade Support Plans, non-formal classrooms, e-learning techniques, complete evaluation of the children’s progress through regular Parent-Teacher meetings and attention to nutritional level of the children through regular health check-ups and awareness campaigns.

Working two-dimensionally, Manthan SVK aims to pull out the lives of the children from the vicious circle of illiteracy, and to be able to do that successfully the parents also need to be educated, be it about the importance of education or the actual imparting of education. For this purpose, Manthan SVK has set up various Adult Literacy Centres and Sewing and Stitching Vocational Training centres across India.

In all this, Manthan has been a not-for-profit organisation, celebrating the beauty of donating for the society. All the initiatives taken up by Manthan are sponsored by generous donors keen to contribute for society. This tradition of giving and sharing one’s assets has been adopted from India’s age-old tradition of helping through ‘Daan’ and the celebration of this concept in the form of ‘Daan Utsav’. Each year, Manthan, too, celebrates Daan Utsav to not only commemorate the efforts of all the donors and helpers, but also to encourage and motivate others in society to come forward and help. As a customary by-product of Manthan’s efforts, this tradition binds different sections of society together, working towards unity and equality in Indian society.

With the grace and blessings of His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharajji, Manthan SVK hopes to continue working for the welfare of the society always.
