Persuading the Dream of Holistic Health for masses, the social initiative program of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) ‘Aarogya’ in collaboration with AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) starts once-a-week “Primary Eye Care Centre,” at Divya Dham Ashram, Qutubgarh Road, Delhi.

The DJJS Optical Dream Turns a Reality

To be held for next 4 years, the OPD clinic would cater to the needy, economically underprivileged rural belt in and around Divya Dham (Near Qutubgarh, Delhi), providing them quality Eye-care by experts from Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS. Infrastructure cost, salary of Doctor (s), Medicines and other consequential expenditure etc. to be borne by DJJS, apart from providing space for clinic and services of volunteers.

Setting the Ball rolling with an inaugral large Eye-Camp, ‘Aarogya’ took a giant leap forward on 29th Sept 2012 towards its dream vision of achieving “Health for All.”

Eye-Camp Highlights: Saturday, 29th Sept 2012; 9 am to 4 pm

Widely publicized, the milestone event saw a fairly large turnout of beneficiary patients who thronged by from nearby villages to avail the benefit of quality services delivered by expert team from AIIMS at their doorstep. Patients came from as far as Rohtak (Haryana), and included children, adults, and old-aged (elderly being the majority).

The Service Beneficiaries

- 714 patients registered at OPD (378 Female, 336 Male)

  • 200 cases of Cataract detected of which 165 referred for Surgery at AIIMS; rest 35 either having hypertension or diabetes requiring treatment control before being taken for surgery
  • 353 patients detected with refractive errors to be given free spectacles, co-sponsored by Mamraj Agarwal Foundation, Kolkata
  • Free Blood sugar tests conducted for all patients
  • Proper education about importance of eye care given to patients through counseling/literature

- Screening for Refractive error/Cataract done for patients, and Free Cataract Surgery at AIIMS offered to those in need; an exclusive 4-day special ward at AIIMS created for those to be operated (offering free stay, food, medicines, etc), with pick and drop services from Divya Dham provided by DJJS.

The Service Providers/Organizers

- AIIMS Team consisted of Ophthalmologists, optometrists, field workers, lab technicians and rehabilitation experts.

- About 60 volunteers of DJJS manned various counters, OPD entrances, including the Yuva Parivar Sewa Samiti (YPSS; youth division of DJJS) members

- Swami Sumedhanandji inaugrated the event in the presence of Swami Adityanandji (DJJS president) and other Swamijis & Vidushi Sisters coordinating/ organizing the event; Vote of thanks also offered by Sumedhanandji and certificate of appreciation given to AIIMS team experts by Swami Adityanandji

- Sister Priyanka Bansal, Vidushi Amjuba Bharti, Swami Shardanandji, & Swami Gangeshwaranandji actively coordinated the Camp

- Shri Mahesh Gupta (overall charge of the Eye Camp along with Shri Vijayji) seen actively solving various managerial issues at the camp

The Response

Those who attended the Eye Camp expressed high satisfaction about the arrangements made and the quality of service rendered. The economically underprivileged, elderly patients confessed, “We couldnt have got such treatment with our own resources.” Feeling thankful to AIIMS team, the beneficiaries also expressed gratitude to DJJS for organizing the event and empowering their vision at fading years of their life.

The Continnum

The Free Weekly Eye-care Clinic to continue at Divya Dham Ashram, every Wednesday (9 am to 1 pm):

- Patients to be screened for Cataract and then taken for free surgery at AIIMS; those with refractive errors to be provided spectacles at subsidized rates; & those having other eye problems to be given free medicines.

Similar free camps/OPD clinics for Dental Treatment and Joint Pain treatment likely to come up soon at Divya Dham Ashram.
