Ambala: Sensing the steep rise of accidents in the days of Mahashivratri, mainly due to the consumption of alcohol in the name of lord shiva, community people from model town came forward to discuss the import of celebrating mahashivratri true to its meaning. Taking the theme of drinking and driving specifically which is also the subject of the ongoing campaign | ‘सफ़र’or ‘Suffer’ in Ambala, people at length discussed the general view and perception towards the custom of having intoxicants especially ‘bhaang’ on the day of Mahashivratri.

With India reporting as many as 1.34 lakh fatalities in road accidents every year, a vast 70 per cent of them being due to drunken driving, questions are now being raised on whether the mushrooming growth of liquor vends along the highways is responsible for costing precious lives in an untimely manner.

So, in order to highlight the myths related to drinking and driving, Sadhvi Gopika Bharti Ji and Sadhvi Meenakshi Bharti Ji, disciples of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, with demonstrations and activities, threw light on ‘how alcohol affects the driver’s vision, judgement, and ability to react quickly to the incidents happening while driving which eventually leads to fatal accidents and sometimes on the spot”.

More than 135 people including men, women and youth took an active participation and appreciated the efforts that the organization is being taken from the last 3 months to make the Ambala free from accidents due to drunk driving.

‘सफ़र’or ‘Suffer’ Campaign – a state of art campaign for checking the increasing no. of road accidents in the state of Haryana, awareness on drinking and driving, investigating upon the unbounded availability of alcohol along the highways, discouraging the display of fascinating promotional posters and hoardings of alcoholic beverages across the roads and getting the enforcement and checking securities up to the mark for users are the prime objectives.
