Dehradun: Time and again, women in every era have given remarkable case studies to quote for ages, irrespective of the discrimination, stereotypes, violence that ceaselessly cross her path. Yet nothing sufficed till date that could change the status of equality from ‘privilege’ to ‘right’ for her. DJJS, with the divine inspiration of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji (Head & Founder of the organization), is an institution that itself witnesses majority of operational management of its socio-spiritual programs by Sadhvis (female disciples). It recognizes the successful deeds of women in society every year by adding a feather in their caps called ‘Annual Santulan Award’. This year, under the UN prescribed theme ‘Be Bold for Change’, the organization is carrying out 8th Annual Santulan Awards in 7 regions of the country viz, Maharashtra (Chakan), Haryana (Ambala), Punjab (Amritsar), Uttarakhand (Dehradun), Uttar Pradesh (Meerut), Madhya Pradesh (Gwalior) and Rajasthan (Jaipur), accrediting women for their impeccable performances in several social spheres. After Meerut, Dehradun city witnessed the award ceremony on March 19, 2017 conducted at ONGC, Community Centre, Dehradun with thousands of attendees.

A list of women who have exhibited extraordinary performances in their respective fields were shortlisted from the city. It was further scrutinized by the organization jury based on their achievements and thus, 9 of them were nominated for awards. The list included Smt. Anuradha Dalmiya (Director NIVH), Dr. Suchismita (Additional Commissioner), Ms. Anjali Nauriyal (Journalist Times of India), Smt. Basanti Devi (Jagar Singer), Ms. Asha Lal Tamta (National Secretary Human Rights), Ms. Divya Rawat (Mushroom Lady), Dr. Sujata Sanjay (Gynaecologist), Ms. Pooja Bisht and Ms. Yashna Bahri Singh (Child Physiologist). Hon’ble Sh. Ashok Kumar-ADGP, Dehradun was invited as the chief guest of the evening to seek his perspective on prevailing women issues, and present awards to these idols who have repeatedly showcased their capabilities.

The mega event began with a dance ballet representing woman as an incarnation of goddess and a Shakti powerhouse by team of enthusiastic volunteers. A skit to showcase the journey of a woman who combats all odds against her, succeeds and gifts another case study to quote for future generations solely with her weapon of spiritual enlightenment. An educative lecture to clarify misconceptions and thus create value for girl child, was delivered by Sadhvi Deepika Bharti Ji. She also laid emphasis on the need for women to be, not just educationally and economically, but also spiritually empowered and united in order to rise above the present scenario and re-hoist the flag of women glory. A mesmerising music band performance was also presented by dedicated volunteers that rapted the audience. Thereafter, each awardee was honoured with 8th Annual Santulan Award and being the token of appreciation, followed by a group photo. In the end, a token of gratitude was presented to Hon’ble Ashok Kumar ji for rendering moral encouragement to awardees by his participation. Further, along with high tea, an exhibition was put up to display organizations’ illuminating publications and initiatives in regards to social evils.
