Santulan – the Gender Equality program of Divya Jyoti Jagrati sansthan (DJJS) was invited by Shaskiya Ucchatar Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Gwalior, to take a workshop on the issue of rising Female Feticide and need for its elimination.
The workshop “It’s a Girl” addressed not just girls but boy students also disseminating a profound thought of eradicating gender based discrimination at household level. The major highlights of the workshop were - Nukkad Natak, which focussed on the discriminative practices that our society possesses where daughters and sons are treated distinctively. The act proved to be a mirror for the society and was followed by a choreography which elucidated daughters as fairies and thus generated love and blessings for the girl child.
A quiz on various cultural and societal reasons for son preference was held in which even the staff also participated. "Girls are always expected to behave in a particular manner - quiet, shy, simple, well mannered" said the Sadhvi Gender Trainer from DJJS.
Students showcased immense enthusiasm during the quiz. "My father says he won’t allow me to study after class 12th. My brother is an engineering student and I am compelled to become a teacher” said one of the students.
“It’s ironical how women on one side of the globe are reaching the heights in every sphere be it business, science, literature or politics and on the other side they are deprived of their fundamental right of getting educated” said Sadhvi Manisha Bharti Ji, disciple of Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji.
Student's feedback showed that could very well extract take home points from the workshop to lead a gender just life ahead. The school management applauded and appreciated the efforts of DJJS.
