Even the nine days Navratri festival observed with worship of Goddess Durga fails to mask the ever dipping Child Sex Ratio. Sex-selective abortion is the practice of terminating a pregnancy based upon the predicted sex of the baby. Despite of the acts like PCPNDT levied by government to curb this social evil, regrettably, the problem is still breathing fast in every corner of the society.
Holding the responsibility to eradicate the human havoc of sex selective abortions (female feticide) not only from practice but also from mind & spirit and sow a seed of awareness in young minds, Vishnu Garden center of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) organized a gender sensitization workshop on the theme "it’s a girl" with girl students of standards 6th to 10th in Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School, Khyala, under the banner of Santulan – Gender Equality program of DJJS.
Hundreds of students and teachers gathered in the school ground for the program. The school principal accorded the assembly and welcomed DJJS team. The workshop took off with a sensitizing play displaying women struggle and their subjugation at every stage of life.
The 35 minutes play showcased subjects like son preference syndrome, techniques of sex selection being used secretly, sense of subordination in girl child and her lower status in family. Towards the end of the play, a social message to save girl child and voice against female feticide was delivered by a volunteer portraying Maa Shakti - embodiment of power.
The workshop concluded with a short lecture by DJJS panel shedding light on change of mindsets being the sole remedy to critical situation of society dominated by the menace of sex selective abortions.
DJJS, through its transcendental tool of self-awakening is making masses conscious of their rights and wrongs through plethora of platforms worldwide and is thus spreading word about value for girl child.
The school teachers and principal applauded the DJJS’ ideology and appreciated efforts and contribution of the organization in this sphere.
