Santulan-the gender equality program of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan, in its incessant drive to reach closer to its vision of establishing a gender just society is commemorating International Women’s Day across the nation, in the form of a month-long campaign called “Swabhiman”; following the theme ‘Press for Progress’ kicked off by UN this year. Santulan, envisions a bigger picture and objects, to not just emancipate women from the invisible shackles of discrimination and prejudices, but also enabling them to attain what they deserve. Therefore, “Women empowerment-Challenges & Success Mantras” was taken as key subject in Santulan’s workshops conducted under “Swabhiman”.
“The thing women have yet to learn is nobody gives you power. You just take it” says an empowered woman. High spirit was inculcated through an assortment of activities by Santulan volunteers to cater to every sort of mindset that discourages the thought of gender inclusive environment. The sensitizing programs featured motivational commentaries followed by gender-based activities wherein participants discuss the distinct traits of ideal women from history in interesting & diverse manner; a forum theatre to showcase the pervasive gender discrimination and detrimental thought process that impedes growth in women status and further inviting audience’s opinions on the situation. Enlightening discourses were also delivered by Sadhvi disciples, highlighting the need to release women from stereotypes, disparities & subordination. Instead of recognizing her sacrifices, the emphasis should be on reducing those sacrifices and erasing the need to howl her evident success in every social sphere. One major aspect discussed in the program is the age-old cliché of glass ceiling and how it can be addressed. The Sadhvi Gender Experts with mention of Mahishasur Mardini, also vocalized the ideology of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, founder and head of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan; that incorporates the necessity to: a. inculcate respect for women in society; b. empower women spiritually to enable them to untangle themselves from the hassle that come their way.
An educative and cause-based exhibition, adorned with posters of prevailing gender stereotypes, various roles of women etc., was also displayed post the program as a window to attendees’ queries about program and the subject of the program as well as Santulan’s initiatives.
Furthermore, interested participants got themselves enrolled as volunteers to be part of the awareness drive to establish a gender just society.
