Dr. Rajendra Prasad was appointed as the first President of India after independence. At that time, the monthly salary of the President was fixed at Rs. 10.000 per month. However, Dr. Rajendra Prasad took only 50% of his salary every month! Why? He claimed that the 50% amount was sufficient for meeting his requirements. Not just that! Towards the end of his 12-year tenure, he took only 25% of his salary.
