Health Killers @ Office/Corporate

Office is our second home. Rather, in today's times, it won't be wrong to say that our workplace has become our first home with respect to the time we spend there. Since most of the time is spent in the office, the health or fitness factor at the workplace automatically pulls our attention. Therefore, let's shift our focus to the three major health hazards that can affect our fitness and the ways by which we can protect ourselves from these disorders.

One of the major health killers are the chairs of our offices. We sit for almost the entire day on the chair. Verily, the day is not far when we would come across such headlines- "Sitting has become the epidemic of the era!" Why so? It was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology that mortality and time spent in sitting have correlation with each other. This result came out after studying about 1,85,000 people for a period of around 14 years. Moreover, as per the article published in the Medical Journal of Australia,'prolonged sitting at the desk may account for health hazards'.

Air conditioners (AC) have become an integral part in offices today. Without an AC, we can't even imagine a corporate world. However, the AC environment has been taken as one of the causes of Sick Building Syndrome (SBS). Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) is used in the context of situations wherein the people experience acute health hazards on spending large amount of time in such air-conditioned buildings.

This is another major problem that affects the health of the working ones today. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, about 40 million people in the United States suffer from chronic long-term sleep disorders each year and an additional 20 million people experience occasional sleep problems. One of the most common sleep disorders amongst the working people is sleep apnoea. If its symptoms are left untreated, then, it can lead to problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, stroke, etc.
