DM office Pithoragarh invited DJJS Pithoragarh to host the launch event of the month long district – wide tree plantation campaign on the occasion of Hariyala Festival, the traditional tree plantation festival celebrated in the area. District Magistrate, Pithoragarh, Mr. C. Ravi Shankar flagged off the said tree plantation campaign through a special event organised at DJJS Pithoragarh Ashram based in Mad Siloli Road on 16 July 2017.
Mr. Santosh Kumar Pandey, SDM Pithoragarh; Mr. Kedardutt Joshi, Pradesh Updyaksh BJP; Mr. Jagat Singh Khati, Chairman Nagar Palika, Pithoragarh; Mr. Satendra Sharma, Chief Engineer, PWD; Mr. Naresh Kumar, DRDA; Mr. Vinay Bhargav, Distt. Forest Officer; Dr. Usha Gunjiyal, Chief Medical Officer, Pithoragarh; Mr. Amarendra Kumar Chaudhri, Chief Agriculture Officer, Pithoragarh were other eminent guests who participated in this special event.
Mr. C. Ravi Shankar, DM Pithoragarh addressing the locals from the city and surrounding villages emphasized the need of reforesting the hills in order to restore the ecological balance and sustain the beautiful mountainous ecosystem gifted to them. In his address, he extended special words of appreciation to DJJS for its commendable socio- spiritual work in the area laying a special emphasis on the awareness and plantation initiatives undertaken by the organization in the area for Nature Conservation. He also ensured his support in further greening of the area. The launch event was followed by a plantation of local varieties of trees in the surrounding areas.
