Chakan branch of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan in association with Grampanchayat, Landewadi Pingalwadi, Pune organized one day ‘Free Bone Density and Eye Checkup Camp’ in the premises of District Primary School Council, Pingalwadi, Ambegaon taluka in Shirur subdivision of Pune, Maharashtra on 8th November 2019 from 10 am to 5pm.
One week prior to camp, publicity about the camp was done through distribution of pamphlets by DJJS volunteers. With the conscious effort of Sansthan and a team of doctors along with other staff, about 195 patients (70 men, 100 women & 25 children) received health benefits in terms of free consultations, diagnostics and medicines.
With the help of torch light and Keratometer, Eye doctor examined more than 60 patients for eye clinical conditions such as external eye infections, vision loss caused by nutritional deficiency, presbyopia, myopic vision, cataract, Glaucoma, etc. Vision Test was performed on patients with refractive errors, presbyopia and outdated glasses. And those identified patients with acute eye ailments were referred to hospital for further investigation and treatment. Also seven patients identified with cataract eye ailment underwent cataract surgery free of cost in the hospital. Prescribed medicines were provided free to the patients related to their diagnosed eye problems.
Under this camp, the registered patients also underwent ‘Bone Density Test’- which measures how much calcium and other types of minerals, are in an area of the bone. With the help of a portable, scanning calcaneal Ultrasonometer Device, a convenient screening tool for earlier detection of osteoporosis and bone mineral density, 65 patients were found with low bone mass & density ailments. Free calcium supplements and tonics were provided to patients with low bone mass; and critical cases were further referred to hospital.
