Prashikshan- Stitching and Sewing Center, a project under Manthan SVK, organized a stitching workshop in Gurugram, Haryana from 10 Dec-21 Dec, 2021.
Gender equality and women’s economic empowerment are central to the realization of an inclusive and sustainable development. Yet gender gaps around the country in various economic backgrounds remain large, pervasive and persistent. Somewhere, it is also attributed to the age-old patriarchal mindset of the society, which believes a woman is born to help others to achieve their dreams without creating an existence for herself. The reasons behind the unemployability of women reside in gender inequality, lack of information and practical knowledge, and poor education.
Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan’s (DJJS) social program named, Manthan - Sampoorn Vikas Kendra under the benign guidance and inspiration of revered Gurudev Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, has been relentlessly working in this regard, to bring a change and erase the line of discrimination. Manthan - Sampoorn Vikas Kendra has been instrumental in providing equal learning opportunities to all genders especially from economically weaker backgrounds free of cost, through its holistic supplementary education initiatives. Another initiative, SYAHI- Adult Literacy Center has been involved in creating academic and skill building opportunities for the adults.
Along with providing education, Manthan - Sampoorna Vikas Kendra for the last six years has also been running a project called “Prashikshan” - The Sewing and Stitching Center. Prashikshan is involved in making unemployed, deprived, financially recessive women get skilled and create earning opportunities for themselves.
Recently, a ten-days stitching and sewing workshop was held by DJJS Branch in Gurugram, Haryana from 10 December to 21 December 2021, where 18 women nominated their participation and attended the workshop enthusiastically. In this workshop women were taught making masks, sling-bags, mobile-pouches, saree covers etc. from easily available household materials. It concluded on 21st Dec with a small convocation ceremony where they put-up their products for exhibition.
All the beneficiaries were congratulated and presented certificates by preacher Sadhvi Deepa Bharti Ji, Programme Head, Manthan, DJJS Gurugram Branch’s head coordinator Sadhvi Mridula Bharti Ji and Sadhvi Mahayoga Bharti Ji. All the women have been encouraged for creating an uplifted and bright future for themselves and their families. During the ceremony several participants shared testimonies and talked about how this workshop helped them in boosting their confidence and deepening their self-belief.
