“Addiction begins with the hope that something ‘out there’ can instantly fill up the emptiness inside.” Considering such beliefs and practices becoming more and more prevalent in the world, it seems that the world is moving farther away from peace. Amongst the several initiatives taken by Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan to elevate this darkness from the world and especially from the lives of prisoners, one such initiative was taken by Antarkranti program by organising a one day Spiritual Discourse and Meditation Session at Central Jail, Sriganganagar on 4th February 2020.

Approximately 200 prisoners came forward to attend the program seeking an escape to their miseries and a pathway to peace and satisfaction. The event commenced with a series of melodious devotional songs like “ Hai preet jaha ki reet sada“ beautifully sung by DJJS preachers Sadhvi Gargi Bharti and Sadhvi Punyaprada Bharti. The insightful and motivational lyrics helped uplift the level of energy and attention of the audience.

The orator for the day, Swami Vigyananand Ji addressed the audience highlighting the evils of social external world. He highlighted that people seeking comforts in worldly things gets trapped in the vicious circle of desires and disappointments. He further preached that the knowledge of God can help cleanse the mind and soul. A seeker must be devoted and willing to sacrifice his comforts and satisfactions. Worldly attachment come without any efforts but getting connected and attached to the eternal peace within demands efforts and devotion. Towards the end, Swami ji motivated the prisoners to take a pledge against drugs.

The program concluded with the prison authorities appreciating and applauding for the innovative spiritual approach adopted by Antarkranti to reform prisoners.
