He Touched the Soul!

Chalam (Gudipati Venkata Chalam) was a well-known Telugu author and philosopher, and also a disciple of Sri Ramana Maharshi. In the initial years, Chalam was quite sceptical of Sri Ramana and his teachings, with his rational mind over-powering his thoughts and beliefs. He spent many years full of doubts and scepticism, but eventually yielded to his Guru’s teachings. Thereafter, making consistent spiritual progress, he went on to become a staunch disciple of Sri Ramana.

Chalam once took his friend to the ashram of Sri Ramana to introduce him to his teachings. However, his friend was of an extremely high rational temper and usually kept himself away from sadhus or swamis. Initially, he completely refused for meeting Sri Ramana, but then agreed to visit the ashram on strong insistence from Chalam. On reaching the ashram, Chalam's friend was full of apprehension to see the devotees prostrating, at the feet of Sri Ramana and made his intentions clear to Chalam-

Friend: I will not be prostrating at the feet of your Guru! I will roam around here in the veranda, while you are free to attend to your duties.

…....
