Honesty- Is it still the best policy?

The world around us is full of corruption, crookedness, distortion, extortion, violence, wickedness, and a bagful of other negativities. Truth, responsibility, integrity, morality, sincerity and virtue seem to be sick and suffering. Everybody seems to have been eaten up by the mad race of competition. Truth and faith are almost inexistent amongst the civilized societies of human beings. Living in such venomous surroundings, can a person still choose to be honest? With life based on truth, can he really survive and for how long? To know, let us check out the following incident that took place in a corporate setting. …

There was a boy named Rohit, who had seen poverty as his childhood friend. Death of both his parents at an early age forced him to pursue his studies by working part-time and also look after his daily requirements at the same time. Smart enough to finish his studies with flying colours, he found a respectable executive position in a reputed company, with a fairly good salary.

Time rolled on. … Few weeks back, the chairman (who was also the owner of his company) got to discover that he had been suffering from a fatal disease and that he would not be able to live for long. In the absence of any deserving replacement for himself… the desperate business tycoon announced that he would be choosing one of his young executives to be his successor and…

… In order to test his executives, the intelligent businessman provided all of them with a seed each and told them to take the best possible care in planting their seeds and nurturing them. He promised to meet them after six months from then to see their efforts…

Excitement and enthusiasm of the young executives surpassed all bounds… Taking the seed in their hands, everybody was hoping…

… As three months passed by, the other executives started talking about the shape, size and…

… It was more than obvious to Rohit that he was the only one who had nothing in his pot.
