Real Answers for the Real Inquisitives

Suppose you are asked to fill your desires in a wish list. Just answer with a true heart, where will God be in this list? Or, rather, will He be there at all? Today, perhaps including us, we come across people with plentiful of desires and aspirations in this world of materialism. However, there are some who yearn for God and only God, nothing else and no one else. They might or might not have worldly comforts and affluence; but they have a true thirst for the One who is above everything. And, they do not bargain or compromise at any cost for this craving of theirs. It is this deterministic quest, which one day leads them to the true guide or Master, who answers their inquisitiveness in the real sense, with the real revelation! Let's meet some of them...

Since her childhood, Rachel was inquisitive about knowing God. It was in her school, at the age of eight, when she heard for the first time about India. There was an unspoken pull towards the land of India in her inner being. That day, on returning home from school, she expressed joyfully to her mother, "When I grow up I will never marry; I will go to India,"


Several years went by. Her quest for God received another push when, at the age of fifteen, she got a copy of the sacred book, the Bhagavad Gita. After reading the Bhagavad Gita, a thought settled in her heart that God is supremely passionate. The words of the Gita triggered a craving in her heart to know God, as it stated that oneness with Him was the spiritual birth right of every being. This intensified her search for God. She looked for someone who really loved God and who "knew" Him. She approached many spiritual organizations, but her quest remains unanswered.

It was in 1931, when her long held craving was answered. At that time, Yogananda Paramhansa was giving his talks at Salt Lake City. Rachel was fortunate to attend the same along with her mother and sister. In her own words, as to how her inner thirst for God was quenched, she says, "As I stood at the back of the crowded auditorium, I became transfixed...
