Youth and Religion- a mismatch?

Religion and youth- if these two words are placed together, what do you feel the kind of force between them will be- attractive or repulsive?

These days, a new category can come into existence in this context- “Nones”! Nones is the name given to that section of youth which associates itself with the philosophy- “We believe in God, but do not have affinity towards any religion.” Perhaps there is no end to the list of surveys and stats, which align with the notion of the youth. Here is a glimpse-

From 1990 to 2008, according to the General Social Survey, the percentage of “nones” doubled to 16.3 percent. Likewise, The American Religious Identification Survey highlighted the jump from 8 to 15 percent in "nones". As per several surveys, in recent decades, statistics show a significant rise in the number of US citizens, especially youth, having no inclination towards the concept of religion.

According to the Pew Research Centre, as compared to their older generations, the youth is nearly 36 percent religiously unaffiliated.

“Generation Y” poll by YouGov in Great Britain revealed that less than ten percent of the youth take interest in religion or religious worship. A 2011 Census revealed that in Great Britain, in a poll of young people, carried out by YouGov, young Britons are distancing more and more from religion with time.

....
It is evident... that religion and talks based on this subject hold the place of least significance in the life of the youth.

Here arises an important question- What is the reason for the youth to adopt such a repulsive attitude towards religion? Why has the youth developed abhorrence for religion?...

RELIGION IS THE CAUSE OF DISCORD IN SOCIETY

“Generation Y” poll by YouGov revealed- 41 percent of the youth had the notion that religion resulted in more harm than good in the world. ...

Sometime back, a professor in an introductory religion class posed a question to his young students: “What comes to mind when you hear the word religion?” Nearly 22 out of 30 students expressed a negative view of religion. ...

There are many other parameters which have played a crucial role in developing this kind of mind-set. To know this and furthermore, read the complete article in Oct'16 edition of English Akhand Gyan Monthly Magazine.
