DJJS and AIIMS initiative COMPREHENSIVE EYE CARE PROJECT extend quality eye care services in Bawana

A mega Eye checkup and Cataract operations Camp was organized in Bawana, Delhi at Maujan Chaupal, near Dhandhuram Market on 14th November 2015. The Camp began with lamp lightning ceremony done by the chief guests mainly including Mr Ved Prakash, MLA of Bawana, Dr. Praveen Vashisht, Additional Professor and Head of Dr. R.P. Centre of Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS and Mr. B.K. De, Deputy Medical Superintendent of Maharshi Valmiki Hospital, Bawana.  On this occasion Mr Ved Prakash and Mr. B.K. De appreciated this initiative of DJJS and AIIMS. Also, Dr. Praveen Vashisht appealed localities to come in more numbers to avail the services provided in this camp.

Wide publicity of eye camp was done in advance by distribution of pamphlets, hoardings and announcements throughout Bawana and its neighboring villages by DJJS volunteers.

DJJS and AIIMS initiative COMPREHENSIVE EYE CARE PROJECT extend quality eye care services in Bawana

An extensive team of 20 members (Ophthalmologists and para medical) from Dr. R.P. center of AIIMS extended their medical services for all ophthalmic problems at the camp. 402 patients (178 men and 187 women & 37 children) were examined for eye problems with basic required instruments and equipment which included dilation and fundus examination to some extent. Refraction was also done for refractive error provided and 24 patients who were advised for cataract surgery underwent blood pressure measurement and sugar test and then referred to Dr. R.P. Centre, AIIMS for free cataract surgeries to be done on 16th, 17th& 18th November 2015. DJJS will provide transport facility for these patients to pick up and drop from camp site itself to AIIMS hospital. These patients receive surgery, postoperative care, meals, and round-trip transportation all free of cost. 99 spectacles were booked on concessional prices which will be delivered on 28th November at Bawana only.

The Eye camp was a huge success with overwhelming response from the local people. All patients felt satisfied and pleased with the treatment facilities and availability of FREE medicines. The camp was indeed a huge success in terms of management, services and cordiality. The event got wide coverage by 'Dainik Jagran' and 'Meri Delhi' newspapers.

‘Comprehensive Eye Care Project’ is community eye care initiative undertaken by Aarogya – the holistic health program of Divya jyoti Jagrati Sansthan in collaboration with Dr. R. P. Centre of Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi to extend regular and effective eye care services to  rural belt residing in north western outskirts of New Delhi. A Primary Health Care Centre is also being opened at Divya Dham Ashram, Jatkhod, New Delhi wherein every Wednesday Free Eye Checkup is being done by an extensive team from AIIMS.
