On 17 Aug 2019, amidst the heavy monsoon shower, DJJS Nature Conservators under the banner of DJJS Nature conservation program – Sanrakshan, marched through the lanes of Sec- 11, Panchkula, Haryana, all determined to sensitize the  residents on the current environmental agenda. DJJS Representative and ascetic disciple of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj ji, Swami Gurukripanand Ji, informed the press, “the aim of this massive walkathon is to remind locals of their responsibility towards mother nature and urge them to rise for restoring and maintaining the environmental health of their area”.

Eminent personalities of the city namely, Sh, Gyan Chand Gupta, State Minister of Haryana; Sh. Sanjeev Kalra, ADGP Punjab; Sh. Sunil Talwar, Deputy Mayor, Panchkula; Smt. Om Wati Punia, MC Panchkula; Sh. Sukhbir Punia; Sh. Devinder Dhawan, President, Shri Geeta Mandir, Sec 11, Panchkula and Sh. Harwinder Singh Walia, MC marked their presence in the walkathon to stamp their support to this initiative taken by DJJS for the cause of environment.

The Walkthon was flagged off by DJJS representatives and eminent guests from started from Geeta Bhawan, Sec 11, Panchkula at 4pm in the evening. Over 1000 volunteers holding nature conservation posters covering issues like water crisis, energy crisis, deforestation , waste management and climate change walked for over 3 hours in the sectors raising slogans of conservation. the rally was being led by children dressed as trees, water drops, umbrella calling urging masses to shoulder their due responsibility towards maintaining their natural resources for welfare of their children and generations to come.

Residents of the area were overwhelmed to witness the zeal and dedication of these Nature conservators who continued to walk even after heavy showers. Several of them came out to contact the Nature conservators and understand the cause. In addition, a special awareness generation street play was also performed by a band of DJJS Nature Conservators on the theme of ‘My Earth My Responsibility’. Over 35000 people in the area were sensitized through this initiative.

The walkathon received great appreciation from the locals as well as the Panchkula administration and also opened doors of learning and interaction for people who were interested in joining Sanrakshan in this cause of Nature Conservation.
