Antarkranti-Prisoners Reformation and Rehabilitation Program aims at strengthening the reformative measures inside the jail through different interventions that orient the prisoners towards better and evolved ways of life. Along the same lines, an interactive session on healthy living for a healthy mind was organised in women jail, CJ 6, Tihar prisons on 4 June 2018.

Health Talk on “Life through naturopathy and Ayurveda” by Dr. Garima Thakur at Women Jail, Tihar Prisons

Dr. Garima Thakur (B.A.M.S., N.D.D.Y), Panchkarma and Nadigyan specialist, was invited to do a talk on “Life through naturopathy and Ayurveda”. Sadhvi Jaya Bharti, Senior representative, Antarkranti was also present at the event.

Dr. Garima talked in detail about the various healing methods used in Ayurveda, acupressure and acupuncture. She also enlightened the prisoners on the routine that one should follow for keeping the body and mind in good health She emphasised on starting the day with Dhyan and Yoga for generating positive energy that stays with a practitioner for the whole day. The discussion also delved into right eating practices; as to which foods to be avoided at what time, eating as per season and day timings.

Dr. Garima also provided one to one counseling and consultation to the inmates. She also motivated the inmates to embrace a disciplined lifestyle and practice meditation regularly. Meditation helps in controlling one’s thought process and directs it towards positivity which is very much required to survive in the atmosphere of prisons.

Various yogasans, pranayams, acupressure techniques were also demonstrated during the session

The session was a fun filled learning experience for the 30 women inmates.
