Crimes directed against women in India have more than doubled over past 10 years (2005-2014) as per data revealed by National Crime Records Bureau lately. Female feticide being the worst form of crimes has ecological and demographic ramification that will eventually affect the overall status of women in adverse manner. Paying heed to this social threat, DJJS launched a yearlong nationwide mass awareness and sensitization campaign “Tu Hai Shakti” against sex selective abortions on March 27, 2016 in New Delhi under the banner of its gender equality program - santulan; declaration by Hon'ble Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Sh. J. P. Nadda. The campaign aims to cover more than 6000 areas including villages, towns and districts in 8 states of India - Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, New Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh through 77 execution points; wherein 8 women ambassadors representing each state along with 25,000 volunteers would be carved as catalysts to further sensitize lakhs of people across the country against gender iniquity.

To achieve the aforementioned, the organization is conducting Training of Trainers (TOT) workshops in 8 targeted states to strategize and educate women volunteers on further course of action. Beginning the drive from Haryana and moving across New Delhi and then Uttrakhand; DJJS santulan team reached Uttar Pradesh, yet another gender critical state on 9th June. The training was carried on as a round table conference with preachers and female volunteers from nearby cities Aligarh, Ghaziabad & Meerut, at IIMT College of Meerut City, one of the renowned institutes of management.

The latest report tags Uttar Pradesh as the topmost state in India with 38,467 registered crime cases against women in 2014. The state’s criticality is such that it witnesses and tops in variety of crimes from custodial & gang rapes to molestation, kidnapping of women & girls and what not, scarring numerous souls. The data has made UP as primarily a target to work for elimination of despicable crimes against women.

The training witnessed gracious presence of Chairperson of IIMT institute with his wife who inaugurated the program with lamp lighting. Further, Sadhvi Deepika Bharti Ji, disciple of Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji and program coordinator of Santulan gave a presentation to explain the concept of ‘Gender Stereotyping’ and terminologies tagged with subject of gender. A volunteer benefitted under one of Sansthan’s endeavours in favour of women, shared her story of transformation that geared fellow participants to be vocal and work for the cause. A short documentary summarising DJJS initiatives in this regard for women’s status upliftment was screened that again touched the spirit of womanhood in every one present.

Post the screening was a thought provoking forum theatre presented by Meerut volunteers to showcase the ground level reality about existence of sex selective abortions. A quick group discussion session was arranged wherein attendees were divided into groups as per their branches and asked to discuss on given gender based topics. After the discussion, each group’s representative was called near dais to narrate their discussion and opinion on discussed issue.

After the energising activities, Sadhvi Ji disseminated facts and knowledge about the vision & conduct of campaign. Discussing various knowledge systems to be used in the execution of the campaign right from photography to god and bad practices etc., Sadhvi Ji by means of a presentation to equipped the volunteers.  She reiterated Shri Ashutosh maharaj Ji’s definition of holistic empowerment of women that fundamentally gets ignited through spiritual awakening. The program was concluded with a pledge to stand against the menace along with a group photo. A creative exhibition was set at the venue exhibiting DJJS ongoing programs towards establishment of world peace.
